Caroline has always expressed an interest in visiting Africa. I guess that you could say it is on her bucket list. As she finished up her Master's thesis and before she looks for a real, adult job--she decided now is a good time to follow that dream. I do not want to be the type of person that never wants to do anything exciting or different because of fear, but this plan did worry me. Especially when many of my traveling friends were concerned too. In spite of my concerns, she found an organization that operates an orphanage and school in Kenya--and she worked it out. She traveled alone to NY, then Amsterdam, then Mombasa. Once she arrived in Mombasa, she was met and taken to the compound where she will be working for 4 weeks. Now that she is there, and relatively safe, I am glad that she is having this experience. We did have a couple of heated discussions getting to this point!
